The mysterious time between Christmas and Epiphany is known in many regions as the Rauhnächte - a threshold time when the old ends and the new begins. Traditionally, the twelve nights between December 24th and January 6th are considered to be particularly mystical: the "Wild Hunt" roams around, the burning of incense in the house and yard drives away evil spirits, and old customs tell of Frau Holle or the Percht as the guardians of this period
